The Lexington County Sheriff's Department is committed to the Alive @ 25 program. Our department works hand in hand with the National Safety Council to coordinate implementation of the program in high schools across South Carolina. The program focuses on the behaviors of driving, not the mechanics. We have also partnered with
Wray Automotive in bringing this driver safety program to high schools within our state.
In 2007 over 2,500 high school students completed the 4.5 hour Alive @ 25 program across the state. During this past year, teen-age deaths have dropped dramatically in Lexington County.
In Lexington County School District One, you must complete the program to havethe privilege to drive to school. The program is also offered to students within School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties.
Alcohol and speed are the main causes of teen deaths. Young drivers are nearly twice as likely as other drivers to be involved in fatal crashes.
As partners with the National Safety Council, we are working together toward a common goal of protecting our children and making a difference to improve the quality of life for the citizens of our great state. We must remember that teen-agers are learning about life as well as driving, and we need to help them learn how to be good drivers.
The Lexington County Sheriff's Department as well as all the participating schools, many law enforcement agencies and solicitor's offices support the Alive @ 25 program and truly believe that this driver safety program will save many young lives throughout.
